Intensive Garden Program (IGP)

Nothing piques a child's curiosity like exploring a thriving garden.

Our Garden Educators bring science to life in our outdoor garden classroom during a 26-week program offered to 2nd and 3rd grade students in the Cabrillo Unified School District (CUSD).

Our Intensive Garden Program (IGP) has been offered in CUSD schools since 2005.

IGP is offered, in-person and in small groups, during the school day at all four elementary schools within CUSD since school year 2021 - 2022.

My child is learning good nutritional values of foods. I value that it’s a hands on environment and he’s having fun learning and bringing home recipes from foods the class has grown and eating new things.”
— Parent of 2nd Grader
I love that they are learning about gardening. Growing food is a basic skill that they will carry with them for life—everyone should learn to garden!”

Student Marketeer

Student Marketeers work alongside Farmer Katie at the Coastside Farmers’ Market on Saturdays

For graduates of the Intensive Garden Program, our Student Marketeer Program allows 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students — and older — to continue learning about health, environment and agriculture by lending a hand at The HEAL Project Farmers' Market booth for an hour or two on Saturdays. Student Marketeers work alongside The HEAL Project’s farm staff, applying math, customer service and marketing skills, and sharing their knowledge of fruits and vegetables with the public.

Check out our Student Marketeer program to learn more about this volunteer opportunity.

My favorite part of the day was when I went to HEAL class!”
